Burbank City Emblem
The city of Burbank is known as a city built people, pride and
progress-three ingredients city leaders say have turned this tiny
rural town into the thriving community it is today.

Land occupied by the Burbank of today originally was part of two
large Spanish land grants, although the real history of the city
began when Dr. David Burbank, a New Hampshire dentist,
headed west with thousands of Americans seeking new
opportunities.

Realizing that bringing the railroad would increase the value of
his ranch, he sold the Southern Pacific Railroad a stretch of land
on his ranch for one dollar-and the first train passed through
Burbank in April 1874.

The motion picture business also moved to Burbank in the
1920's, with the first National Pictures purchasing a 78 acre site
on Olive Avenue.  Warner Brothers, Columbia Pictures, Disney
and NBC soon followed.

Today, the City is home to a new shopping center, the Burbank
Empire Center, completed in 2002.  The city has recently
approved a downtown revitalization strategy, attracting
residents of Pasadena and Glendale, carrying the city into the
21st century.

All criminal charges involving misdemeanors such as DUI and
petty theft  are prosecuted by the Burbank City Prosecutor.
